Texas knifemaker Leon Treiber, known for his folders with the “Texas Ranger” shield/symbol on the handle, lost a courageous battle with cancer on Nov. 14. He was 69.
Though his passing was reported elsewhere earlier, we at Knife Showcase thought it appropriate to recognize Mr. Treiber for his contributions to the custom knife industry and for those who may not be aware of his demise.
According to reports, he succumbed at his home in Hunt, Texas, surrounded by family.
The soft-spoken, easy-going Texan was a fixture at knife shows. He made the aforementioned Texas Ranger folders—versions of which won Best Folder at the 2010 Arkansas Custom Knife Show, and Best of Show and the Henry Rabke Award for Best Mammoth Ivory Folder, both of the latter two at the 2009 Central Texas Knife Show—and also fixed blades, most all of which had some kind of Texas theme.
