Are knives your passion? Do you have an eye for writing that both entertains and enlightens? Do you thrill at making the complex digestible? And are you a natural puzzle solver, whose unique perspective leads to workable solutions? If you answered ‘Yes’ to all of these questions then we want you.

BLADE Magazine is looking for an Online Editor to join our editorial team and aid in digital content production. The ideal candidate will have a way with words, a sharp eye for detail, impeccable copy-editing skills, a passion for knives and an ambition to shepherd the storied brand into the future.

Responsibilities include contributing to our website’s content production, overseeing freelance writers, aiding in our website’s design and organizational search engine optimization goals, formulating and deploying biweekly email newsletters, filling in editorial holes for the print magazine and assisting with website-related sales and special programs. 
 Absolutely Necessary:

  • Love and knowledge of knives, knifemaking, and the knife industry (you needn’t be Bob Loveless, but you better know the difference between a drop point and a tanto).
  • A sharp copy editor’s eye to ensure the structural integrity of copy (an out-of-place comma and typos should jump off the page at you).
  • The ability to clearly and accurately convey facts and ideas through writing and ensure other writers’ copy does the same.
  • Comfortable correcting writers and mentoring them so their copy lives up to our exacting standards.
  • Ability to organize time and consistently meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Hands-on experience with HTML and photo-editing software (preferably Photoshop).
  • Working knowledge of AP style.  
  • Dogged research skills, not only applied to day-to-day editing/writing projects but also in advancing digital strategies and tactics.
  • Drive to learn and master all aspects of Organic Search and Search Engine Optimization (SEO), how search engines find and rank online content, and how to optimize online content to capture search rankings.
  • Extremely comfortable using or learning online platforms such as WordPress, WooCommerce, Marketing Automation Platforms, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, aHREFs, Slack, Affiliate Networks, and others.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and applying new skills.
  • The ability to be an engaged team player, as well as the initiative to operate independently, and the fluidity to move seamlessly between the two.

Nice to Have:

  • An understanding of the technical aspects of knives and knifemaking, as well as the historical and current political landscape surrounding them in the United States and the world. 
  • Knowledge of Search Engines, how they index sites/posts, and how to write/organize content that ranks for specific search terms.
  • Expertise in publishing and the minutia of what it requires to turn out a print publication.


  • Grow recurring website traffic through original content and managing freelance writing projects, editing writers’ content to ensure it is structurally sound, factually correct, and optimized to target valuable organic search keywords.
  • Focus on Quality: help our readers learn new information on topics they are passionate about through clear communication and presentation.
  • Become an authority about our website and magazine and their places in the greater knife world.
  • Monitor site’s performance, and have an understanding of which pieces of content are performing well for which traffic sources/audiences.
  • Source images for posts through creation or searching out open-source assets that do not run afoul of copyrights. 
  • Learn the principles of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and use them to advise web implementations from other parts of the business.
  • Take ownership of, and suggest improvements on our site’s overall SEO content strategy. Optimize existing content regularly to increase organic search rankings. Conduct research and testing to identify potential areas and methods of improvement.
  • Conduct keyword research to determine valuable keywords and unlock new sources of traffic.
  • Participate in meetings to concisely and articulately advise digital, print editorial, sales, management, and other stakeholders about the site’s current digital landscape.
  • Set up and schedule our biweekly email newsletter.
  • Represent our company/brand at industry events and shows when needed. This position may include some annual travel. 
  • Contribute to inter-brand cross-promotional activities.
