The photo of the Christmas tree in our “rotating” photo screen above that accompanies our news roll is courtesy of Dorris Wood Creations. Dale Dorris e-mailed the image of the tree decorated with Randall knives to wish the BLADE® ad staff a Merry Christmas. We asked him if we could use the image on Knife Showcase and he said yes. Thanks, Dale!
By the way, the knives on the tree are NOT photoshopped. Those puppies are really “hung with care.”

On behalf of the staff of Knife Showcase, BLADE Magazine, the BLADE Show and everyone at Krause Publications and F+W Media, here’s wishing you a very Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays, and a most fruitful New Year.

And no–the image is not photoshopped. Those are real Randall knives!
Here’s a look at an infomercial for a knife from the 1950s. The segment was called “Delicious Dishes” and it played in movie theaters before features. If you showed up at the theater every week for 12 weeks, you got a knife or other kitchen tool. Can you imagine a theater doing that nowadays?
Although that’s changed, the key techniques for selling a knife is basically the same as today. Even in the 1950s, the paper test was the primary way to show off a sharp knife.
Note: The sound isn’t quite lined up with the image.
Ernest Emerson’s knife auction ends today, so if you’re interested in participating, you’d better act fast.

For more information visit www.emersonknives.com.
Â
The auction culminates a whirlwind week for Emerson Knives, Inc. The company moved into a new, 12,500-square-foot facility in Harbor City, California. It is four times larger than Emerson’s previous facility. “We moved seven 18-wheelers full of equipment and started working on Monday,” he noted. The new facility will include a 3,000-square-foot knife/self-defense training area. A “meet and greet” at the new facility is being planned, Emerson said.
Â
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Emerson held what he said was the first worldwide on-line knife lottery, with participation from buyers on every continent but Antarctica. He said it lasted two hours and 33 knives were sold. He plans to do another one, possibly in the spring.
