What’s Hot? Knives With Asian Flair!

In a fascinating feature article written by Mike Haskew in the October 2015 issue of BLADE®, the point is driven home that the Asian influence is ever present in the knife industry. As Haskew notes, “From tanto-inspired blades to the temper lines, fittings and finishes that are hallmarks of the Eastern look and feel, the new designs keep coming.”Cover01 UC3010_flip KC4021_4

From Columbia River Knife & Tool’s Asian-influenced collaborations with Lucas Burnley, to knives with Eastern flair from CAS Iberia, United UC3010_flipCutlery and Condor Tool & Knife, Haskew covers a lot of ground … all the way to East Asia. See the October 2015 issue of BLADE for the full story.

Novelist Carries BLADE Show Knife

A known author of thriller novels, Brad Thor was recently interviewed by everydaycarry.com on what knife and gear he carries on a daily basis. Thor is an American novelist, whose works include several New York Times Best Sellers. He’s just finished his newest book, Code of Conduct, and took some time to share his everyday carry inspired by his many military- and spy-themed thrillers.S3312

Thor enthusiastically related that he carries a CRKT Otanashi noh Ken folder, designed by James Williams, which happened to be a 2015 BLADE Show limited-edition knife (sold out). As Thor noted about the Otanashi noh Ken during the interview, “Simply put, one of the most badass folding knives on the planet. Tons of SpecOps members carry James Williams’ blades. Based on centuries-old Samurai designs, nothing on the market beats it. I carry it because men whose lives depend on their tools, also carry it.”

Thor said that he also carries a Kobold Phantom Chronograph, a Gerber Shard keychain tool, a Fisher Spacer Pen and a Field Notes Pitch Black Edition (both for taking notes–he is an author!), a Streamlight PT1L, Leatherman-style PS multi-tool, an Apple iPhone 6 and a Magpul Field Case iPhone 6 cover.

Every year at the BLADE Show in Atlanta knife companies that have booths at the show vie for the coveted–and they really are–Knife-Of-The-Year® Awards. Five Best Antique Knife Books?

Find out how author, knife collector, BLADE® Magazine field editor and antique knife authority Richard D. White ranked his favorite price and information guides to collectible knives.

DSCN4728White says he asks a series of questions, such as, “Does the book accurately document a brand history, its years of production, and have enough sidebar histories, distinctive specimens and interesting stories that provide ‘meat to the bone?'” Or, “Is the book a ‘quality publication’? Are the photographs professionally done? Are the line drawings clear, accurately scaled and detailed? Is the book well printed? What about the book’s organization? Does it have a glossary of commonly used terms? Does it include a value guide? Does it have widespread appeal?”

Using such guidelines, White names Levine’s Guide To Knives And Their Values, 4th Edition (click here for the newest, 7th Edition of BLADE’s Guide To Knives & Their Values) and American Premium Guide To Knives and Razors, 6th Edition (click here for the eBook version of the newest 7th Edition of American Premium Guide to Knives & Razors) by Jim Sargent as two of his Top Five Best Antique Knife Books.

See the August 2015 issue of BLADE for the other titles he names, as well as for the complete, detailed and fascinating story of how he finally came up with a final five.
