R. Lee “Gunny” Ermey, actor and star of the History Channel’s Mail Call and Lock N’ Load TV shows, will make a special appearance during the 30th Annual BLADE Show June 10-12 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta.

Gunny will be at the SOG Specialty Knives & Tools booth Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to sign autographs and help introduce his inaugural SOG collaboration knives.

A spokesperson for SOG for over one year now, the retired Marine staff sergeant collects knives and Japanese swords, among other blades. His breakthrough role was as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in the Vietnam War movie, Full Metal Jacket. He also appears as the bald-headed psychoanalyst in the Geico TV commercials who throws the box of tissues at his “patient.”

American Commitment working, expansion planned for 2010

POST FALLS, IDAHO When Buck Knives announced their American Commitment a year ago, they
knew exactly what they wanted to do: greatly increase the percentage of knives made in their Post
Falls, Idaho plant.

“We had absolute faith in this major step; that’s why we made the commitment,” said CJ Buck,
president and CEO. “We fully anticipated a positive reaction and a successful year, but these were
forecasts and projections.”

Now the results are in for 2009, and this step forward has proved to be successful on all
counts. Dealers and consumers all reacted positively. Retail sales for Buck in a tough year for
American business were steady, headed by strength in the hunting segment of the market.
“Dealers welcomed the change,” Buck said. “They and their customers verified our belief that,
given a choice, most people prefer products Made in America.”

Based on this encouraging progress and a continued commitment to American-made product,
combined with the very positive response the new products received at the SHOT Show, Buck’s
plan for 2010 is an upsurge in domestic production. To achieve that growth they anticipate a 10%
increase in their Idaho work force.

I don’t know if any of you have heard, but Manhattan, New York, DA Cyrus Vance is writing his own version of the law concerning gravity knives. He has included box cutters and lockbacks in the definition, which not only is patently false but irresponsibility bordering on the criminal. His recent (June 17) “investigation” of retail knife stores in Manhattan resulted in scores of knives being confiscated from 14 retail locations and the “offending” stores were forced to pay $1.9 million in fines and participate in a campaign educating consumers on “illegal” knives or else face prosecution. And now he is going after e-tailers outside of Manhattan who sell “illegal” knives to Manhattan residents.

Vance is a menace and must be stopped! Contact anyone and everyone you know in Manhattan and tell them to get this clown out of office. Also, contact KnifeRights.org and AKTI.org and join the pro-knife fight.

If Vance can do this, DAs in other jurisdictions can, too–maybe even yours!

The Sunday edition of the New York Times featured a front page article on Knife Rights and efforts to remove or rationalize restrictive knife laws and enhance protection for lawful use of knives by honest citizens. While the reporter got a few facts incorrect, in general the article can be viewed as relatively even-handed and a positive, especially considering the source. (Note that this article was written prior to Knife Rights’ first case in New York being settled with a dismissal.)
